Owls Close Out Regular Season With Sweep of Mission

Sylmar, CA — The Citrus College Softball team wrapped up their magical 2015 regular season on Tuesday afternoon with a pair of wins over Los Angeles Mission College. The Owls won game one in five innings 11-1, before holding on for a 10-7 win in game two.

 In the opening tilt the Owls looked to be in proper form, scoring three runs in the top of the first. The Owls added three more in each the second and four more in the third innings, taking a 10-0 lead into the bottom of the third. The Eagles would score once in the bottom half of the third, but the Owls added either in the top of the fourth on their way to the 10 run win.

In the first game, freshman Jessica Brown went 3 for 4 and finished a double short of the cycle. Sophomore Sandra "Gaby" Vera was a perfect 3 for 3. Freshman Anissa Gallegos pitched all five innings, scattering six hits and one walk, while improving to 23-5 on the year.

In the second game, Citrus again jumped out to an early lead, scoring one in the first, and four in the third to go up 5-0. The Owls added one more in the top of the fourth, before Los Angeles Mission College scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to insert themselves into the game.

Citrus would rush back in front scoring two runs in each of the top of the fifth and sixth innings to go up 10-3 after the Eagles scored once in the bottom of the fifth. Mission made their biggest push in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs, before the Owls made it out of the jam unscathed in the win/loss column.

In the win, Brown again dominated at the plate going 4 for 5 with two more home runs. Sophomores Erinn Jaramillo and Bobbi Stalnaker both went 2 for 4. with two runs each.

With the two wins, Citrus' regular season ends with 30 wins against just nine losses. In WSC Blue Division play, the Owls went 18-3, winning their second straight conference title. The Owls will be off until a week from Saturday when they should host a first round best two-out-of-three playoff series against a to be determined opponent. Post-season seeds and match-ups will be announced this Saturday afternoon.
