San Marcos, CA - The Citrus College Softball team knew that their trip down to Palomar College wouldn't be easy, with the Comets being the reigning CCCAA State Champs, and entering the season ranked #1 in Southern California and #2 in the State. Palomar was as tough as advertised as they swept the Owls 8-0 and 8-3.

In the opening game at noon, the Owls' offense faced trouble from the jump. Citrus was held two total hits in the game, drew just two walks, and was held scoreless over the five innings the game took. Palomar meanwhile took advantage of Citrus nearly from the jump scoring twice in the bottom of the first, and then putting together a six spot in the bottom of the fifth that allowed the game to end after just five innings.

In the second game, the Owls showed a little more fire, putting together some offense, despite Palomar scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Owls would rally with two scores in the third, but the Palomar runs came in bunches with their next three all coming in the bottom of the fifth. Citrus scrapped out a final run in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough.

In the second game, freshman Celine Spathias proved a spark plug, going 2 for 4, scoring a pair of runs and driving in one. Sophomore Autumn Bartholomy also went 2 for 4, while freshman Jade Nua was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

With the two losses, Citrus drops to 0-3 on the season. The Owls' road won't get any easier as they travel to State #9 Mt. San Antonio College (3-0) on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM in Walnut.
