Glendora, CA - After tough 0-4 start to their 2016 season, the Citrus College Softball team finally got one in the win column on Thursday afternoon when they hosted State #10 El Camino College. It was a wild affair with 20 runs in total scored, with Citrus winning 13-7.

El Camino came out of the gate with a run in the top of the first, getting a one out triple and scoring on a ground out. It was the Owls who came out with a roaring offense though, scoring seven total runs in the bottom of the first, already eclipsing the offensive output in any of their previous four games.

Sophomore Haley Gomez brought in the first run with an RBI single up the middle of the field. Sophomore Kali Smith followed that up with an RBI single to left field, only to have freshman Karissa Martinez plate freshman Jade Nua on a fielder's choice RBI. Sophomore Makaele Moore would back that up with an RBI single to left field, and freshman Ashley "Nikki" Soto cleared the bases a few pitches later with a three-run home run to center field.

In a deep hole, the Warriors scratched out another run in the top of the second, before taking advantage of a two-out Citrus error in the top of the third to score five times and tie the game up at seven runs each. The Owls would take the lead right back in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI groundout from Martinez that made it 8-7.

The offense wasn't done there though as they scored five more in the bottom of the fourth to go up six. Nua would drive in a run with a single to center as did Smith. Martinez followed suit with a RBI single to right, while Moore drove in the final run of the game on a RBI fielder's choice that drove in Smith.

Speaking of Moore, she was crucial in shutting down the El Camino offense over the final 4.1 innings. In her time in the circle, Moore gave up just two hits, two walks, and no runs. She also struck out a trio of batters.

With the win, Citrus improves 1-4 on the season. The Owls will be right back after it on Friday when they host Pasadena City College and Santa Ana College in a triangular. The Owls will take on PCC at 2:30 PM and Santa Ana at 7:00 PM with the two teams taking on each other at 5:45 PM.
