Fullerton, CA - The Citrus College Softball team's tough start to their 2016 campaign continued on Monday afternoon when they travelled to State #12 Fullerton College on Monday afternoon. The Owls pounded out eight hits, but drew just two walks, and stranded seven base runners in a  11-3 loss to the Hornets.

Fullerton wasted little time in putting some runs on the board, scoring three in the bottom of the first. Citrus would try to rally with a run off a double by freshman Celine Spathias in the top of the third that plated freshman Karissa Martinez, but the Hornets came roaring back in the bottom half of the inning scoring six runs to take a commanding 9-1 lead.

Freshman Madelaine Tickey would try to kick start Citrus back into the game with a two RBI double in the top of the fifth, but the Hornets slammed the door in the bottom half of the inning with two more runs that ended the game early.

In the loss, Martinez would finish 3 for 3 with a pair of runs. Spathias also went 3 for 3 with a run and an RBI.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 2-8 overall. The Owls will be back at home on Thursday when they host Rio Hondo College at 2:30 PM.
