Owls Have Best Offensive Showing In Conference Opener

Santa Monica, CA - The Citrus College Softball team put together it's best offensive showing of the 2016 season on Thursday afternoon when they opened up WSC Blue Division play. The Owls recorded 18 hits en route to an 18-6 five-inning victory over Santa Monica College.

The Owls wasted little time in scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Santa Monica was able to get one back in the bottom of the first, but Citrus added nine more runs between the second and third innings, and then another three in the fourth to go on top 15-1. Santa Monica would come back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Owls scored three more in the top of the fifth and kept a clean sheet in the bottom half to end the game two innings early.

In the win, sophomore Haley Gomez went 4 for 5 with a run and an RBI. Freshman Celine Spathias was 3 for 5 with two runs, two RBIs, and a home run. Freshman Jade Nua also had a home run, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a pair of runs. Sophomore Autumn Bartholomy would get the W in the circle, improving to 2-4 on the season.

With the win, Citrus improves to 4-8 on the year and 1-0 in WSC Blue play. The Owls will be back at home on Saturday when they host State #2 and SoCal #1 Santiago Canyon College at 12:00 PM.
