Glendale, CA - The Citrus College Softball team's dreams of entering the California Community College Athletic Association Softball Playoffs for the 10th time in 11 seasons took another step forward on Tuesday afternoon when the Owls travelled to Glendale College and got a sweep of the Vaqueros. The two wins, coupled with a loss each by Antelope Valley and Bakersfield put the schools into a three-way tie for second place in the WSC Blue with three games to go.

The Owls got things off on the right foot, a run in the top of the first. The Owls would add three in the third, one in the fourth, and three more in the top of the fifth to jump out to an 8-0 lead, ending the game in the fifth. Sophomore Makaele Moore was fantastic in the circle surrendering just two hits, handing out one walk, and fanning six batters while twirling a shutout. At the plate Citrus was paced by sophomore Kali Smith who went 4 for 4 with three runs and three RBIs.

In the second game, the Owls had the opposite start as Glendale jumped all over the Owls with four runs in the first two innings to put the Owls in a 0-4 hole as the game headed into the top of the third. Citrus quickly turned things around in that third inning, scoring six unanswered runs before going on to four more in the fourth, two more in the fifth to once again end the game early in the fifth inning, this time with a 12-4 victory. Freshman Celine Spathias finished 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs, while sophomore Autumn Bartholomy went 4 for 4 with 4 RBIs.

With the two wins, Citrus improves to 16-21 overall and 11-7 in conference play. The Owls will be at home for their final three games, beginning on Thursday with their 2:30 PM showdown with Los Angeles Valley College.
