Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Softball team swept visiting Victor Valley College in Western State Conference East Division action on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls outscored the Rams 22-2, winning both games 11-2 in five innings.

In the opening fray, the Owls jumped all over the Rams scoring all 11 runs in the first three innings. Five would come in the first, two via a home run off the bat of sophomore Jade Nua, two via Ram errors, and another thanks to an RBI from freshman Jacquelyn Preciado.

Citrus would go on to score three in the second, again getting two more runs on Victor Valley errors and the third on an RBI double to right by freshman Jocelyn Alvarado. In the third, it was the final three runs for Citrus in the game, when freshman Seanna Jimenez lifted a sacrifice fly to right, Nua hit an RBI single to left-center, and freshman Molly Montell laced a single to left field.

Sophomores Jade Nua and Celine Spathias were both a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, with Nua driving in three runs and scoring three of her own. Preciado and Jimenez were both 2-for-3. Freshman Vanessa Garcia would earn the win, pitching all five innings, giving up just two hits, surrendering no walks, and no earned runs.

In the second game, it was pretty much the same story. Victor Valley briefly led scoring a run in the top of the first, but the Owls quickly had an answer in the bottom half of the inning when Jimenez scored on a wild pitch and Spathias drove in Nua. In the bottom of the second, Nua would draw a bases loaded walk, while Spathias drove in another run with a groundout to second to make it 4-1.

The Owls really broke the game open in the third. Freshman Danielle Dominguez would hit an RBI single through the left side of the field, while Jimenez drove in three a few at bats later with a shot to center field. In the bottom of the fifth, Nua finished the game off with a three-run home run to right field for mercy-rule win.

Nua was once again a perfect 3-for-3, as was Jimenez, who also scored four runs in the game. Dominguez would earn her 13th win in the circle, pitching all five innings, giving up three total hits, one earned run, and striking out a season high six batters in the process.

With the two wins, Citrus improved to 20-12 overall and 9-3 in WSC East play. The Owls will be back at it on Thursday when they host College of the Canyons for an important conference contest at 2:30 PM.
