Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Softball team ended their 2017 home slate with a bang on Thursday afternoon. The Owls routed visiting Los Angeles Valley College 16-0, using 12 hits, half of which went for extra bases.

The Owls got it going right away, getting a two-run home run from sophomore Celine Spathias for an early lead. Citrus would score twice more in the bottom of the second, both thanks to a Monarch error, but then turned around and scored three in the bottom of the third. In that innning, sophomore Karissa Martinez, freshman Jocelyn Alvarado, and freshman Mia Escobar all tallied RBIs for Citrus.

With a healthy 7-0 lead, the Owls drove in the final nail with a nine-run fourth inning. Spathias started the inning off with an infield RBI single. Freshman Molly Montell added another infield RBI single, while Martinez notched her second of the game with a single to left. Escobar added two more with a double to center, while a double by freshman Seanna Jimenez and a triple by sophomore Jade Nua drove in the final three runs of the game.

Five Owls had at least two hits in the contest, including Escobar who went 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs. Nua was 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs, while Martinez went 2-for-3 with three runs and a pair of RBIs. In the circle, freshman Danielle Dominguez was dominant, pitching a five-inning two-hitter, giving up no walks and striking out a pair of batters.

With the win, Citrus improves to 24-12 overall and 13-3 in WSC East play. The Owls will close out the regular season on Tuesday at conference leader Antelope Valley College for a double-header that starts at 1:00 PM.
