Mission Accomplished: Owls Thump Visiting LA Mission

Citrus Softball moved one step closer to the number 3 spot in the WSC East Thursday, walloping 3rd place LA Mission 13-1 in a mercy rule game. The win puts Citrus in striking distance of the Eagles, who are now just one game up on the Fighting Owls, but is also retribution for a nail biting, one run loss to the Eagles in early March. 

Citrus started off the game with a barrage of offensive might, scoring 5 runs in the first inning alone, adding more to the lead as the game progressed. At first glance, the 13 Owl runs on just 9 hits seems efficient, but surprisingly there were still 7 runners left on base, all of them in scoring position. For all intents and purposes, Citrus could have easily scored as many as 20 runs in the routing.

Emily Paredez picked up the win from the circle, giving up just 1 hit and 1 run, both of which came in the final at bats for the Eagles. Paredez moves to 9-4 on the year. Sluggers Leticia Morales, Valerie Ortiz, Sofia Saucedo, Jacquelyn Preciado and Paradez combined for the 9 team hits for the Owls. Morales cracked a 3 run homer in the 3rd that put the Owls up 10-0, and ended up with 4 RBI's on the day. 

The Owls improve to 17-14 on the year, with a 7-5 conference mark. Citrus takes a 1 game hiatus from conference play as they travel to El Camino today for a regional game. Game time is set for 2:00.
