Cake Walk in Glendale Marks End of Regular Season

Citrus Softball has some pent up aggression. The Owls have been on a raging streak, capping off the regular season on a 5 game run that featured 39 runs scored, 2 mercy wins, a couple of barnburner close calls, and plenty of abuse on the team bats. The streak continued yesterday as the Owls travelled to Glendale to take on the Vaqueros, asserting themselves relentlessly and capping off the one-sided game in the 5th inning with a 7 run rally. 

Citrus ace Emily Paredez pitched a complete game shutout, holding the Vaqueros to 2 hits and just 4 baserunners. Paredez improves to 11-6 on the year. On the offensive side, Citrus was firing on all cylinders, with 9 players recording hits and hitting .452 as a team. Sophomore slugger Molly Montell was back in the lineup again and charted 3 hits including a double and a triple, 1 run and 3 RBI. Center fielder Mia Escobar notched a pair of hits including a homer, her 3rd of the season, 1 run and 3 RBI. Paredez added a home run for 1 run and 2 RBI to round out her stat line. Giavanna Muenz extended her hitting streak to 6 games, going 3 for 3 yesterday and 12 for 21 with  6 runs and 4 RBI over the last 5 games. 

Yesterday marked the end of regular season play, and Citrus will be on standby until tomorrow when the playoff seedings will be announced. Although the Owls won't win an automatic bid, they do stand a chance at earning a play-in game based on their record and RPI. Citrus is 23-17 overall with a 10-6 conference mark. The Owls currently reside in the #4 spot in the 9 team WSC East.
