Citrus College exploded for 10 runs to secure a 13-0 run-rule victory over LA Valley Thursday afternoon.

The Owls improve to 10-8 overall and 4-2 in Western State Conference action, while the Monarchs drop to 2-16, 0-5 in conference.

Marissa Gallegos had a solid game on both sides of the ball, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored from the batter's box and grabbing the shutout with just four hits from the circle. Ericka Pineda went 2-for-2 with two runs, while Leah Morales had four RBIs.

Citrus wasted little time and scored one run in the first and two in the second. Morales tagged up on a caught foul ball to start the scoring before Pineda and Marissa Ramirez (three runs) came home to up the Owls' lead to 3-0.

The Owls busted the game wide open with 10 more runs in the fourth, scoring five runs before the Monarchs grabbed two outs. The visitors looked like they might get out of the inning from there but dropped a routine fly ball to keep the bleeding going.

Citrus needed just three outs to put the mercy rule in play in the top of the fifth and did just that, taking the Monarchs down in order to secure the 13-0 victory.

The Owls close out the busy week of five games in five days on Friday with a 1 p.m. contest at Antelope Valley College.
