Owls Take Flight Past Seahawks

Citrus College kicked off a busy week on a high note, grabbing an 11-4 victory over LA Harbor in non-conference action.

The Owls improve to 14-13 with the win, while the Seahawks drop to 13-11 on the year.

Samantha Meyndert, Patty Rodriguez and Tatiana Figueroa led the Owl offense with two hits apiece. Meyndert went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, while Rodriguez finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, and Figueroa went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Leah MoralesAlexis Cordero, Marissa Gallegos, Jasani Zavalza, Kylie Ruiz, Desiree Loza, and Ericka Pineda also had hits in the game for the Owls.

The Owls jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first after Meyndert homered with Morales on base. Zavalza tacked on another run with an RBI double, scoring Rodriguez from second.

Citrus threatened to put the run rule in play in the fifth, plating five runs on four hits to take a commanding 8-0 lead. With Cordero and Meyndert on base and no outs, Gallegos drilled a triple to right center to send both her teammates in. Rodriguez followed with an RBI double before coming home as the Seahawks grabbed an out. Figueroa drove in the fifth run of the inning with a base hit to center field before Harbor could get out of the inning.

The Seahawks woke up in the bottom half of the inning and scored two runs to keep the game going and added another in the bottom of the sixth before the Owls all but sealed the win with three runs in the seventh. 

Citrus turns right around to play LA Valley College on the road Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.
