Despite unexpected rain trying to spoil the day, Citrus College got in a dominating 13-2 run-rule victory over Glendale Collee Thursday afternoon.

The Owls improve to 18-16 overall and 8-7 in Western State Conference action. The Vaqueros drop to 7-24 on the year and 1-13 in conference.

Glendale struck first with two runs in the top of the first, but the Owls answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Desiree Loza doubled to left center before Samantha Meyndert doubled to send her home.

The Owls then came alive in the bottom of the second after Patty Rodriguez led off with a solo home run to left field. The Vaqueros threatened to end the inning with two outs, but an error kept the inning going to allow Citrus to plate five more runs.

Citrus kept pushing and put the run rule into play with five runs in the bottom of the third. Tatiana Figueroa led the inning with a single up the middle before making her way to third on two wild pitches and coming home on a passed ball. Meyndert drove in another run with a base hit through the gap between second and shortstop before Marissa Gallegos drilled a three-run homer.

The rain started to come down heavier, but the Owls weren't done scoring as Figueroa came home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to all but seal the five-inning victory.

Citrus heads to El Camino College on Saturday for a nonconference matchup at 1 p.m.
