Citrus College closed out its first season under head coach Jessica Brown with an 8-0 run-rule victory over College of the Desert Tuesday afternoon.

The Owls end the year at 19-21, while the Roadrunners finish 14-15 overall.

Samantha Meyndert earned the shutout in the circle for the Owls, allowing just three hits in the game. Offensively, Meyndert went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Leah Morales (2-for-4), Marissa Gallegos (2-for-3), Desiree Loza (2-for-3) and Ericka Pineda (2-for-3) also had two hits in the game as the Owls finished with 11 hits in the mercy win.

Citrus wasted little time and scored in its first chance at the plate after Gallegos sent an RBI single into shallow left field to plate Meyndert.

The Owls then took the Roadrunners down in order and added some insurance in the second with two runs on two hits.

It looked like Desert might evade the run rule, but Citrus kept inching closer and added another two runs in the fifth before sealing the early victory with three runs in the sixth off crucial Roadrunner mishaps. With two runners on and no outs, Morales bunted aboard and an error scored Pineda before a passed ball scored Jillian Walker from third and a wild pitch gave Morales the green light to end the game.

Prior to the game, five sophomores were honored for their contributions to Owl Softball: Alexis Cordero, Tatiana Figueroa, Pineda, Patty Rodriguez and Walker.
