Glendora, CA -- After suffering back to back losses to close out the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament a week and a half ago, the Citrus College Women's Basketball team looked like they got things back on track when they opened up their 2015-2016 home schedule against Grossmont College. The Owls held the visiting Griffins to 28% shooting from the floor and did just enough in a 57-46 victory.

The Owls came out of the blocks hot, scoring nine of the first 11 points of the game for an early lead. Citrus would push their lead to 10 points after a jumper by freshman Joy Adlao with 2:42 left in the first quarter, but Grossmont made a charge over the final minutes to pull to within three at 16-13 after one quarter of action.

In the second, Grossmont made their move, using a 9-3 run to take their first lead of the game, and pushing it to as much as four at 22-18. Citrus would turn the tables shortly thereafter using a 10-0 run bookended by a free-throw by freshman Marsiol Chavez-Delgado and a jumper by freshman Marisa Brown that made it 28-22 with 3:52 left in the first half. Citrus would hang on to the lead, and go into halftime up 33-27.

In the third quarter Citrus quickly pushed their lead to double digits after three straight lay-ups by sophomore Janae Chamois to open up the second half made it 39-29. Grossmont would cut the lead back down to five before the end of the quarter, but Citrus put the screws to the Griffins on defense in the fourth quarter, giving up just four points in the final 10 minutes of action en route to it's 11 point win.

In the win, Chamois led all scorers with 16 points. Brown added 10 and a game high 11 boards. Sophomore Elsie Mejia rounded out the double-digit scoring evenings with 10. With the win, Citrus improves to 3-2 overall. The Owls will be back in action next Friday when they open up the Chaffey College Tournament against Los Angeles Trade Tech College at 3:00 PM in Rancho Cucamonga.
