Rancho Cucamonga, CA - After a disappointing performance in the opening round of the 2015 Panther Pride Invitational hosted by Chaffey College yesterday, the Citrus College Women's Basketball program came back on Saturday with a much better performance. The Owls led from start to finish against a solid Barstow College squad in a 62-52 victory.

The Owls came out of the box hot, scoring the game's first seven points jump started by a free-throw from freshman Marisa Brown, and book ended by a lay-in from sophomore Janae Chamois. From that point forward Citrus never relinquished the lead or even let Barstow get close enough to tie the game.

That's not to say, Citrus didn't have to sweat it out in parts. The closest the Vikings would get, would be four points on four separate occasions. The first came in the second quarter when Barstow cut it down 19-15 with 2:40 left in the half. The Owls quickly got a bucket from sophomore Elsie Mejia and a lay-up by Brown that made it an eight point advantage again.

Barstow would pull back to within four in the opening minutes of the third quarter at 25-21, but after a few lost possessions a pair of free-throws from freshman Marisol Chavez-Delgado and one of two from Chamois put Citrus back up seven.

The last ditch effort by the Vikings came in the fourth when they got it to 54-50 with 4:31 left. A pair of free-throws by sophomore Tiffany Villaruz put the Owls back up by six, two free-throws over four attempts by the Vikings got it back down to 56-52. Chamois would personally make sure it never got any closer as she scored the final six points of the game for the final margin of ten.

Chamois led all scorers with 17 points. Brown added 13 and a team high nine boards. Freshman Damianna Bagues rounded out the superlatives with nine points off the bench for Citrus.
