Valley Glen, CA - The Citrus College Women's Basketball team knew that they had their hands full headed into their opening contest with Ventura College in the 2015 Buddy's All Star Los Angeles Valley College Classic. The Owls got just that as Ventura proved too much for Citrus in a 68-42 loss.

The Owls kept things close for the first four minutes, scoring the game's first bucket on a jumper by freshman Marisa Chavez-Delgado, and leading as late as 6:13 in the first quarter after a triple by sophomore Janae Chamois. Things went South shortly thereafter as the Pirates went on a 11-0 run over a five minute period, that saw them take a 10 point lead. A lay-up by sophomore Allison Zalin finally broke up the run, but two more free-throws by Ventura in the closing seconds, put Citrus in a 19-9 hole after one.

Things didn't get better for Citrus in the second quarter, as Ventura opened it up on another 11-0 run. Citrus' first points of the quarter wouldn't come until the 5:54 mark via a lay-up by sophomore Tiffany Villaruz. Citrus would battle back from the 21 point deficit to trail by just 14 at the half, but Ventura never really let the Owls get much closer.

In the win, Citrus was paced by Chamois' team high 15 points. Villaruz was the only other Owl in double-figures with 11. Chavez-Delgado was limited to just four points, but did lead the team with eight rebounds.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 5-4 on the year. The Owls will be back at LA Valley on Saturday at 1:00 PM when they take on College of the Desert in the first consolation semi-final of the day.
