Valley Glen, CA - After three quarters of strong play, the Citrus College Women's Basketball team had a rough fourth quarter against College of the Desert in the consolation semi-finals of the 2015 Buddy's All-Star Los Angeles Valley College Classic. That would be the downfall of the Owls who were booted from the tourney after just two games with a 69-55 loss.

The game got off to a raucous start with both offensives firing early. The Roadrunners would stake themselves to a 20-17 lead after the first quarter, but the Owls used a 17-9 second to take a 34-29 lead at the break. Desert would outscore Citrus by five in the third to send the game into the final quarter all knotted up at 45-45.

Citrus would keep it close for the first two and a half minutes, answering Desert's initial 3-point salvo with a three-point play by freshman Marisa Brown that knotted the game up 48-48. Over the next three minutes, the Owls would hit a rough patch as Desert went on a 10-0 run. Brown would come through once again, hitting a jumper off a pass from freshman Damianna Bagues to pull within eight at 58-50. The Owls never got any closer.

In the loss, sophomore Janae Chamois led all scorers with 19 points. Brown would add 11 and a game high 12 rebounds. Sophomore Gabriela Ixtepan rounded out the superlatives, by doing everything other than score, with six boards, three assists, and three steals.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 5-5 on the season. The Owls will take a break from action these next two weeks before closing out their non-conference schedule at the 28th Annual Grossmont Holiday Tournament. Citrus opens up the tourney by taking on Cypress College at 1:00 PM in El Cajon.
