El Cajon, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team snapped a three game slide on Tuesday afternoon with a 62-44 win over conference rival Bakersfield College in an elimination game at the 28th Annual Grossmont College Holiday Tournament.

Bakersfield would come out the gate landing the first flew blows scoring the game's first five points. Citrus quickly rallied though getting buckets from sophomore Janae Chamois, sophomore Allison Zalin, and sophomore Elsie Mejia to take their first lead 6-5. Bakersfield would score on their next trip down to briefly retake the lead, but the Owls went on a 10-0 run kick started by a triple from Chamois and a bookended by a second three ball from the sophomore that made it 16-7.

At the end of the first Citrus had a 19-11 lead, and the Owls never looked back. In the second quarter, Citrus struggled on the offensive end, mustering just 11 points, but the Owls defense was even stronger, holding Bakersfield to just six points. Citrus again found their rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring the Renegades 21-11, taking their largest lead of the game in that frame 51-25 after a triple from sophomore Tiffany Villaruz.

In the win, Chamois led all scorers with 16 points. Freshman Marisa Brown came off the bench and recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 boards. Sophomore Elsie Mejia steered the offense, collecting six rebounds and handing out a team high five assists.

With the win, Citrus improves to 6-6 on the season. The Owls will close out the tournament on Wednesday at 1:00 PM as they participate in the Consolation Championship against Cuesta College.
