Lancaster, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Basketball team got things done the hard way over the weekend when they travelled to Antelope Valley College to take on a talented Marauders squad. The points were hard to come by, with Citrus upending Antelope Valley 50-45. It was the fewest points scored by Citrus in a victory this season.

The game was close through the first two quarters of play. The lead would change hands four times, and the game would be tied up on three separate occasions in the first 13 minutes of action. The Owls would hold a slim 9-8 lead after the first quarter of game play thanks to a jumper by freshman Marisa Brown in the closing portion of that first quarter.

Antelope would come out and score the first points of the second quarter, but a jumper by freshman Damianna Bagues and a three-pointer by freshman Jasmine Meza gave the Owls the lead 14-11. Citrus wouldn't surrender the lead for the rest of the way, but it wouldn't always be easy. In the second quarter, Citrus would outscore the Marauders 10-7 for a 19-15 lead at the break.

In the third, Citrus would put together their best offensive quarter of play putting up 20 points against Antelope Valley, and allowing the Marauders to score just 10 in that 10 minutes of play. Meza would give the Owls their biggest lead of that night in that quarter, thanks to another field goal that made it 30-16 with 6:13 left in the third.

The Marauders refused to go away without a fight in the fourth. Antelope would claw their way back into the game getting to within three after a triple that made it 45-42 with 2:20 to go. On the Owls' next trip down the floor, sophomore Janae Chamois put the Owls back up five with a jumper. From that point forward Antelope never got closer than four points as the Citrus defense forced Antelope into two turnovers and 0 for 3 shooting from the floor over that final stretch.

Chamois would lead all Owl scorers with 15 points. Meza was the only other double-digit scorer, scoring 10 off the bench. Sophomore Allison Zalin continued her recent strong stretch of play with a game high 11 boards.

With the win, Citrus improves to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in WSC South play. The Owls will be on the road again this Wednesday when they travel to Santa Monica College for a 5:00 PM tip-off with the Corsairs.
