Valley Glen, CA - After Saturday's tough loss to College of the Canyons at home, the Citrus College Women's Basketball team needed to rebound quickly when they turned around and hit the road on Wednesday for their showdown with Los Angeles Valley College. The problem was the Owls didn't rebound, as they experienced some board problems, getting outrebounded 44-28 in a 53-59 loss.

Citrus would never lead in the game, but they did their best to keep the game close, with it being tied up five separate times. Baskets were heard to come by on the evening, as evident by both team's shooting under 40% from the floor and Valley leading by just two 10-8 after the first quarter of play. The two teams picked up the pace in the second with Citrus actually outscoring the Monarchs by one and heading into the break, trailing 26-27.

The third quarter would prove to be pivotal as Citrus one again went cold hitting just five field goals in that 10 minute stretch and falling behind 47-37. The Owls would claw their way back into the game in the fourth though getting their deficit down to two after two free-throws by sophomore Natalie Gutierrez made it 51-53 with two minutes left in the game. Citrus would never get any closer as Valley outscored the Owls 6-2 down the stretch to seal the victory.

Sophomore Janae Chamois was the Owls' only scorer in double digits with a rare off shooting night, scoring 10 points. Gutierrez and fellow sophomore Elsie Mejia each had nine, while freshman Joy Adlao added eight off the bench.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 10-8 overall and more importantly 3-2 in WSC South play, putting the Owls in third place a game back of the Monarchs. Citrus will have to put Wednesday's disappointment behind them quickly though as they get back at it on Saturday inside the Owls' Nest for a 3:00 PM tip against Glendale College.
