Citrus Grabs Third-Straight Win

Citrus College powered through to a 76-52 victory over Merritt College Saturday morning.

The Owls – who are receiving votes in the latest 3C2A State Poll – improve to 8-3 overall with their third-straight win, while the Panthers drop to 0-7.

Three Owls finished the game with double-digit points, with another two just on the cusp. Kristin Morella led the Owls with 15 points (7-for-15), followed by Jolleen Olia (5-for-12) and Gabby Valdez (3-for-9) with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Alyssa Garcia (3-for-6) and Deija Mitchell (3-for-6) also chipped in nine points each.

Defensively, the Owls forced 32 turnovers, finishing with 19 steals. Valdez led with five steals, while Morella and Mitchell each had four steals. Mitchell also led the Owls with 10 rebounds.

Citrus looks to keep rolling as it heads to El Camino College next week for a pair of games. The Owls first take on Santa Ana College on Friday at 3 p.m. before facing Santa Barbara College on Saturday, also at 3 p.m.
