Glendora, CA (Women's Soccer) -- The Citrus College Women's Soccer team scored a pair of early goals and tried not to look back on Tuesday evening. It worked as the Owls opened up their 2012 home scheduled with a W in a 2-1 victory over visiting Moorpark College.

Sophomore Julia Wills steered the game in the right direction earlier. Wills got the ball on the right side of the field, dribble a few yards and fired a cross into the box that found the head of freshman Leandra Escobar. Escobar put the ball away in the lower right hand corner of the goal, giving Citrus a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute of play.

Though they didn't dominate possession of the ball on Tuesday, the Owls were the aggressors on offense with better looks than the Raiders. One of those great looks would come in the 30th minute. Sophomore Vanessa Plascencia got the ball in the middle of the field and looked up field to see sophomore Jasmine Williams streaking up it.

Plascencia perfectly placed the ball past the last line of defense and within in striking distance of Williams. With the keeper challenging, Williams flipped the ball to the right, settled, and then buried it putting the Owls up 2-0.

Citrus would have a few more chances in the second half, but didn't come up with anything to show for it. Moorpark meanwhile got a goal late off a corner kick in the 71st minute. The Owls defense would shut the Raiders down for the remainder of the contest though, as Citrus remained unblemished on the year.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-0-2 on the season. The Owls will be back at home on Friday when they take on visiting Victor Valley College. Kick-off is set for 12:00 PM.
