Citrus College opened Western State Conference-South action Tuesday afternoon at home with a 3-0 win over West LA.

The Owls improve to 3-2-1 on the year and start conference play with a 1-0-0 mark, while the Wildcats slip to 0-8-0, 0-1-0 in WSC-South action.

Dianna Garcia got the Owls on the board early with a goal in the 15th minute. Jayme Beatty drove in a cross, and Samantha Casas got on the end of it, but the Wildcat goalkeeper made a diving save. She couldn't hold onto it, however, and Garcia was there to tap it in.

Julie Pedroza added some insurance in the 33rd minute with her first collegiate career. Beatty once again sent a cross into the box, this time finding Pedroza who powered it home from close range.

The Owls kept pushing in the second half, looking to add to their lead and had five shots on goal within the first 10 minutes of the frame.

Citrus broke through again in the 68th minute after the Wildcats tried to clear a ball out of their box. It landed right to Cherry, who found Garcia wide open at the far post to extend the Owls' lead to 3-0.

West LA tried to break through with less than 10 minutes on the clock after drawing a foul in Owl territory. The Wildcats put the free kick on frame, but Isabella Villalobos easily made the save to help preserve the shutout.

Citrus looks to carry momentum into Friday as it heads to Bakersfield College for a 4 p.m. contest.
