Owls Close Up Regular Season on Day Three

Valley Glen, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Swim team closed up their 2013 regular season campaign on Saturday in the final day of the 2013 Western State Conference Swimming Championships. The Owls didn’t have as strong a day as they did on day two, but ended up the season strong, especially considering it was their first time in the water since 2010.

Owls Make a Move On Day Two

Valley Glen, CA -- After a somewhat slow start in the team competition on day one of the 2013 Western State Conference Swimming Championships, the Citrus College Women’s Swim team made a move on day two. The Owls doubled their point total from day one with a number of strong swims, and positioned themselves nicely for the final day of competition on Saturday.

Valley Glen, CA -- On the first day of the 2013 Western State Conference Swimming Championships, it was freshmen Gabriela Debia and Chelsea Fujita Haffner who led the Owls in their first foray to post-season meets in a few years. Both represented the Owls in finals, and both earned valuable points for Citrus going forward.

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Swim team hosted their first dual meet in the last three years on Friday afternoon, and came away with the win. The Owls used their depth, and posted a 103-85 victory over visiting Santa Monica College.

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Swim team held their first home meet in over three years on Friday. The meet was an overall success, as the Owls continued to get better in the water.

Freshman Kirsten Pampu continues to be a part of the Owls' 200 Free Relay team that has improved each of the past three events.

Ventura, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Swim team continued their 2013 conference slate last Saturday in the Western State Conference Quad #3 host by Ventura College. The Owls continued to improve as personal bests dropped all over, and Citrus continued to show they are on the rise.

Freshman Olga Quiroz got the Owls off to a strong start, finishing 10th in the 50 Free at the WSC Quad #2 on Friday.

Valley Glen, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Swim team had another good outing on Friday afternoon as they participated in the Western State Conference Quad #2 hosted by LA Valley College. The Owls got contributions from all over and had their best head to head showing of the season.

Bakersfield, CA -- The Citrus College Women’s Swim team continued to show signs of improvement over this past weekend when they participated in their second Western State Conference meet of the season. The Owls swam alongside host Bakersfield College, Los Angeles Pierce College, and Cuesta College in the Quad Meet #1 Friday afternoon.

Walnut, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Swim team continued their return to CCCAA competition this past weekend when they participated in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational. The Owls competed alongside teams from across the State, showing up strong before winding up with an 18th place finish.

Glendora, CA -- While many Citrus College students spend their weekend recuperating from the long week of school or working on homework assignments, one Citrus College student-athlete chose to spend her time away from campus in a different way. Sophomore swimmer and cross country runner Michelle Lopez spent her weekend last month donating her time, supplies, and some food to an orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico.

Back in the Water

Ventura, CA -- After a two absence from the pool, the Citrus College Women’s Swimming team resumed competition on Saturday afternoon at the 2013 Western State Conference Pentathlon hosted by Ventura College. Half the battle for the Owls, was just getting into the water after a two year absence from competitive swimming, but Citrus exceeded even that, thanks in large part to freshman Chelsea Fujita-Hafner who took 25th overall in the Pentathlon out of 70 swimmers.

Reboot

Glendora, CA -- It's been two years, since the Citrus College Athletics Department has fielded a women’s swimming team. That will change today, as the Owls will be in the water again for the first time since 2010, when Head Coach Andrew Silva debuts the rebooted program at the Western State Conference Pentathlon.

Glendora, CA (Women's Swimming) -- Andrew Silva, assistant Men's Water Polo and Men's and Women's Swimming Coach at Cuesta College, has been named the Citrus College Head Women's Swimming Coach and Aquatics Coordinator. Silva will reboot the Citrus College Women's Swimming program for the Owls. He will also serve as a full-time faculty member of the Citrus College Kinesiology department, along with his duties as the Citrus College Aquatics Coordinator beginning in the fall of 2012.
