San Bernardino, CA -- Citrus College freshman Marcos Martinez threw an eight inning gem, and the rest of the offense did more than enough to pick him up as the Owls won big over the host, San Bernardino Valley College 9-0.

It didn't take long for the Citrus bats to wake up. The Owls put up five runs  in the top of the second inning, using their patience to key the big inning. Freshmen Nick Simons and Jonathon Reynoses both drew bases loaded RBI walks to put the Owls up 2-0. Freshman Jason De La Pena followed that up with a two out two RBI single, before sophomore Mike Rowland continued his hot start with an RBI single to centerfield that put Citrus up 5.

With the big lead at his back Martinez continued to deal on the bump. Martinez scattered five hits and three walks across eight innings of work while striking out five. Martinez improved to 2-0 on the season.
The Owls added two runs each in the top of eighth and the ninth innings to secure the win. In the eighth, sophomore William Ouellette scored and a passed ball and then Reynoso drove in the next score. In the ninth, Rowland's two RBI double to centerfield put Citrus at nine total runs.
With the win, Citrus improves to 3-1 on the young year. The Owls' next game comes Thursday when they're on the road yet again. This time Citrus travels up the 210 to Chaffey College to take on the Panthers at  2:00 PM.
