Valley Glen, CA -- After a nearly week long absence from WSC South play, the Owls returned to the rigors of their conference schedule on Tuesday afternoon at LA Valley College. The result was a disappointing one as they fell to the Monarchs 5-3.

It was the Monarchs who jumped on the Owls, Tuesday as they scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Citrus scrapped out their first run in the top of the fourth inning, thanks to an RBI single from sophomore Keith Cooper. Valley retaliated though in the bottom of the inning, putting Citrus in a 4-1 hole with nearly half the game gone by.

After giving up four runs in the first four innings the trio of Matthew Sampson, Victor Garcia, and Christopher Mourad held Valley to just one run over the final half of the game. The three pitchers gave up six hits and induced three double plays in that stretch.

With the relief pitching doing their best to hold down the Valley bats, the  Owls' offense didn't muster enough. Copper drove in another run in the seventh with a double, and then scored the teams final run in the eighth when freshman Nathan Virgen hit an RBI single.

With the loss, Citrus falls 9-9 overall and just 3-6 in conference play. The Owls will try to return the favor to the Monarchs on Thursday when they host Valley in Glendora. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
