Glendora, CA -- After an impressive 8-3 start to the 2013 season, the Citrus College Baseball team has experienced one heartbreak after another. The Owls have now lost seven of their last eight contests and nearly all of them in close fashion. Thursday afternoon was no different as the Owls played another game and suffered another heartbreaker 7-4 at the hands of LA Valley College.

The game was close throughout, but it was Valley that staked themselves to the lead early on, scoring a single run in the third and another in the fifth to go up 2-0 on Citrus. The Owls rallied in the bottom of the sixth though getting a sacrifice fly from sophomore Blake James, an RBI single from sophomore William Ouellette, and a RBI double from freshman Brandon Benson to take a 3-2 lead.

It didn't last long though, as the Owls fell apart in the top of the seventh. The Monarchs scored five runs, only three of which were earned as they went back on top 7-3. Sophomore Keith Cooper would record a fielder's choice RBI groundout in the bottom of the seventh to put it back to three, but the Owls never got any closer in the loss.

With the loss, Citrus dips below .500 for the first time all year at 9-10. Even worse the Owls are now in a 3-7 hole in WSC South play. Citrus will get a tough test on Saturday when they continue conference play against SoCal #6 Glendale College. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
