Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Baseball team nearly erased a four run deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning, but their comeback came up short. Instead, the Owls suffered their second straight defeat at the hands of SoCal #14 Mt. San Antonio College 6-4.

It was the Mounties who got on the board first using a four run outburst in the top of the second inning to run out to a 4-0 lead. The Owls would come back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to a groundout RBI from freshman Jonathon Reynoso and an RBI double off the bat of sophomore Blake James that cut the Mt. SAC lead in half. As has been the case recently though, the Owls coughed those runs right back up in the next inning when Mt. SAC extended their lead back to four runs with two in the top of the sixth.

With their backs against the wall, the Owls gave it a valiant effort down the stretch. Citrus loaded up the bases in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs, but the third out would come just like the other two, with the Owl batter striking out swinging. The Owls kept the pressure going into the ninth, though and made a run at the Mounties.

Sophomore William Ouellette led off the inning with a bunt single up the third base line that was followed by a single to center field from Reynoso two at bats later. James loaded up the bases after that with a walk, only to see freshman Brandon Benson drive in Ouellette in the next AB with a single to left field.

With their deficit now down to three, sophomore Mike Rowland would get it even closer with a fielder's choice RBI that made it 6-4. Sophomore Warren Fishback loaded the bases back up in the next at bat with a walk, but the run ended there as the Owls struck out yet again to end the inning and the game.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 10-15 on the year. The Owls will get back into WSC South play starting next Tuesday when they travel to Culver City to take on West Los Angeles College. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
