Glendora, CA -- No one really likes leftovers, including baseball teams. Unfortunately, the Citrus College Baseball team had a heaping helping of them on Saturday afternoon, as they left over a dozen runners on base and missed out on a golden opportunity to upset SoCal #4 Bakersfield College in what turned out to be a 5-3 loss for the Owls.

The Renegades did most of their damage in the top of the first inning. Bakersfield scored three of their first five scores in that frame including one on a strikeout passed ball that should have been the third out but ended up allowing a run.

Citrus tried to answer right back, and did make a dent in the deficit with a score in the bottom half of the first, thanks to a RBI single to left from sophomore Warren Fishback

After the trouble in the first, freshman starting pitcher Marcos Martinez settled into a nice rhythm on the mound. Martinez ended up going six and a third scattering seven hits and four walks in his time on the hill. Martinez gave up four runs, only two of which were earned and K'ed three batters on his way to a no decision.

Citrus would tie the game up in the fourth inning. Freshman Jonathon Reynoso led off the scoring with an RBI double, while sophomore Blake James knotted the game up at three runs each with a single up the middle.

Bakersfield would take the lead back in the top of the sixth and then add an insurance score in the top of the eighth to go up 5-3. Fishback would try to get a two out rally going for the Owls, but it never materialized as Citrus fell to the Renegades for the third straight time this season.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 12-16 on the year and 6-11 in WSC South play.  The Owls will try to take down Bakersfield again on Tuesday when they head North to take on the Renegades in their yard. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
