Bakersfield, CA -- Despite a 5 for 5 day at the plate from sophomore Blake James, the Citrus College baseball team came up on the wrong end of the scoreboard on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls were bested by host and SoCal #4 Bakersfield College in 10 innings 8-7.

Citrus started off well enough, getting an RBI single from freshman Shawn Sweeney in the top of the second. Bakersfield answered back in the bottom half of the inning, but the Owls went back on top 2-1 with an RBI single from freshman Brandon Benson.

Bakersfield seemingly took control with a four spot in the bottom half of the fifth inning, but the Owls quickly worked their way back into the game. The Owls got an RBI sacrifice fly from sophomore William Ouellette in the top of the sixth, and two RBI's each from sophomore Warren Fishback and freshman Jayson De La Pena in the top of the seventh to go up 7-6.

As Citrus has done often this year though, the Renegades tied it right back in the bottom half of the inning, and both teams were held scoreless over the next two innings sending it to the 10th. Bakersfield ended the game in the 10th, scoring with the bases loaded and one out.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 12-17 overall and 6-12 in WSC South play. The Owls will be on the road again on Thursday when they hit the road to take on red hot College of the Canyons. The Cougars have won 11 of their last 14 games. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
