Baseball Drop Final Game of ‘13

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Baseball team wrapped up their 2013 season on Friday afternoon when they hosted SoCal #5 Glendale College. The Owls mustered nine hits and three runs, but it wasn't enough as they fell 7-3.

Glendale jumped on the Owls from the get go with three singles in the first inning. Luckily, the Vaqueros ran themselves out of the inning and scored just once, despite having runners everywhere in the inning. Glendale did the exact same thing in the top of the second, but sophomore starting pitcher Oscar Gomez dug deep and got out of the inning without giving up a run.

After that it was smooth sailing for Gomez over the next couple of innings. The Owls would even tie the game up in the third when sophomore Warren Fishback picked up an RBI for getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Eventually, the Glendale bats got back on track, chasing Gomez in the top of the sixth, after they scored a trio of runs. The Vaqueros added another score in the seventh, and two more in the eighth to go up 7-1 headed into the ninth inning.

Citrus scored twice in the bottom of the ninth, both off a double from sophomore Blake James. That would be it for the Owls though, as they fell by four scores.

With the loss, Citrus' season comes to a close with a 14-21 overall record and 8-16 mark in Western State Conference play.
