Monterrey Park, CA -- Two days after scoring 12 runs against Oxnard College, the Citrus College Baseball team was shutout by host East Los Angeles College on Thursday afternoon. The Owls mustered five hits, but drew just one walk as they fell to the Huskies 1-0.

Freshman Steve Mendoza drew the start for the Owls on the day. Mendoza ended up going 4 and 1/3 innings surrendering four hits and handing out three free passes. Mendoza did strike out one batter, and got the no decision for his efforts. The Huskies' lone run on the day came off freshman Sean Patton who came on in middle relief. Patton went three and a third, but was tagged with the go ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning when he gave up a one out double.

At the plate, the Owls made good contact, but just hit the ball in all the wrong places. Citrus struck out only four total times, but couldn't come up with that timely hit that would've given them a better chance at the win.

With the loss, Citrus falls to an early 1-1 on the year. The Owls will turn right back around and get back after it on Friday afternoon when they host Rio Hondo College. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
