Ventura, CA -- The Citrus College Baseball team went on the road on Thursday afternoon and headed back home with a big road win over Ventura College. It was a little extra fun for the Owls as they won the game in the top of the 11th inning with a 2-1 win.

Pitching ruled the day for the Owls as freshmen Michael Reina, Cameron Rodriguez, and Conlan McKenzie combined to throw all 11 innings, giving up a combined seven hits, five walks, just one run, and nine strikeouts. The Owls were nearly equally as baffled at the plate with seven hits, six walks, and nine strikeouts of their own.

Citrus' lone run in regulation, came in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded freshman Aaron Torres drew a walk that made it 1-0. The Owls would prevent the Pirates from scoring until very late in the game. A sacrifice fly by Ventura in the bottom of the eighth inning would be the only run for them in the game.

The Owls would have a runner in scoring position in the top of the ninth, but ultimately left him stranded. Citrus got another chance in the top of the eleventh, but wouldn't be denied this time. With runners on first and third and no outs, freshman Alex Guerrero Jr. laid down a picture perfect sacrifice bunt, that scored freshman Mark Segat from third, ultimately the game winner.

McKenzie would finish with the win. Mackenzie threw the final three and two-thirds innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four. At the plate, Guerrero Jr. had a big day going 2 for 2 and driving in the winning run. Freshman Taylor Grace was the only other Owl with more than a single hit, going 2 for 5.

With the win, Citrus improves to 4-5 on the year. The Owls will be back out on the diamond on Saturday afternoon when they square off with San Diego Mesa College. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM in San Diego.
