Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Baseball team opened up Western State Conference South Division play with a bang on Tuesday afternoon in an 18-4 win over visiting West Los Angeles College. The Owls racked up 18 hits and won big despite committing four errors on the day.

The Owls didn't waste any time putting runs on the board, scoring a pair in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Matthew Reynoso scored the game's first run via a wild pitch after leading off the inning with a walk, and a few AB's late his cousin Johnathon Reynoso scored when freshman Taylor Grace drove him in with an infield RBI single.

Citrus added a single run in each of the third and fourth innings as Johnny Reynoso drove in a run via an RBI groundout and freshman Alex Guerrero Jr. belted a double to left field that scored sophomore Nathan Virgen. The Owls really broke the game wide open though in the bottom of the sixth when they exploded for six runs, with Guerrero driving in two more runs, Matt Reyenoso accounting for a pair of RBI's, and Johnny Reynoso bringing in another. The fifth run of the inning, was a result of another West Los Angeles wild pitch.

The Owls never relented scoring twice more in the bottom of the seventh, and putting up another six spot in the bottom of the eighth. The most exciting moment late in the game came via a grand slam off the bat of sophomore Joshua Page who was 2 for 2 with a pair of runs and those four RBI's.

Freshman Nicholas Sergi (2-0) was lights out in his five innings of work to start the game. Sergi gave up just one hit, walked none, struck out two, and didn't give up a single run. Freshman Sean Patton was solid in relief going two innings without giving up a run or a hit, while striking out one.

With the win, Citrus improves to 8-6 overall and 1-0 in WSC South play. The Owls will be back at home on Thursday when they host Bakersfield College for a 2:00 PM first pitch.
