Santa Clarita, CA -- For the second straight contest, the Citrus College Baseball team came up as the hard luck loser in extra innings. After falling in 10 to Bakersfield on Thursday, the Owls dropped a 3-2 contest at College of the Canyons in 13 innings on Saturday afternoon.

Citrus got the game going right from the get go, when a single from freshman Troy Resch scored sophomore Matthew Reynoso in the top half of the first inning. Canyons came right back in the bottom half of the inning and actually went up 2-1 with a pair of scores. The Owls countered again in the top of the second when Reynoso singled in freshman Aaron Torres to make it two all.

After that, not much happened for either side. The Owls had runners on the corners and just one out in the top of the eighth, but that rally ended abruptly on a double play. Citrus also had chances in the 9th, 10th, and 13th innings, but came up empty each time.

On the hill, freshman Steve Mendoza went 4.2 innings, and was responsible for two runs and just one walk while striking out four batters. Freshman Nicholas Sergi pitched 6.1 innings in relief and scattered five hits and a walk, while not giving up a run. At the plate, Reynoso was 2 for 5 with a run and an RBI.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 8-8 overall and 1-2 in WSC South play. Citrus will start a four game home stand on Tuesday when they host Antelope Valley College at 2:30 PM.
