Sophomore Michael Bradley was 2 for 4 at the plate in Citrus' 7-5 loss vs LA Mission.

Glendora, CA -- Through the first six innings the Citrus College Baseball team had nothing to show for themselves as they trailed LA Mission College 4-0. The Owls finally answered the bell in the bottom of the seventh inning with a five spot, but Citrus ended up on the wrong end of the rollercoaster as the Eagles rallied with two scores in the eighth and an insurance run in the ninth to hand the Owls a 7-5 loss.

LA Mission did most of it's damage early. Hitting a solo home run on the very first pitch of the game, and then adding another before the first inning was up. The Eagles then went on to score once in the second and then another one in the fourth to go up 4-0. The Owls had nary a response though as they didn't even get a runner to second base until the sixth.

Despite the long drought, Citrus finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh. The Owls led the inning off with back to back singles from freshman Taylor Grace and sophomore Michael Bradley. A fly ball to center field would move Grace to third, and then an single to left-center from sophomore Brandon Castaneda finally put the Owls on the board.

Freshman Brendan Campbell kept it going with a single to left field that would score Bradley and cut their deficit in half. Sophomore Nathan Virgen came up next and had a single of his own, but a misplay on the hit by the Mission left-fielder allowed a pair of runs to score, and suddenly the game was knotted up at four runs apiece. Citrus would take the lead in the next at bat, when a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Matthew Reynoso scored Virgen from third and made it 5-4 Citrus.

The euphoria didn't last long though as the Eagles capitalized on a two out error by the Owls to score twice in the eighth. In the ninth, Mission added an insurance score they wouldn't even need, as Citrus went meekly in the eighth and ninth.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 9-11 overall and 2-5 in WSC South play. The Owls will hit the road for their next three games, starting with back to back games at West Los Angeles College beginning on Thursday. First pitch for Thursday's contest is set for 2:30 PM.
