Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Baseball team gained a little bit of ground in an ever tightening Western State Conference South Division race on Saturday afternoon when they won their fifth straight game. The Owls took down second place College of the Canyons with 14 hits, in an 8-2 victory.

It took a little while for Citrus to get going as Canyons scored the game's first two runs, one in the second, and another in the fourth. The Owls rallied back in a big way in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Michael Bradley tied the game up when he crushed on 0-1 pitch over the left field fence with freshman Taylor Grace on the base paths.

A few AB's later the Owls took advantage of a Cougar miscue when freshman Troy Resch scored to make it 3-2. Before the inning was over, the Owls added another score thanks to a RBI single through the left side of the field off the bat of sophomore Nathan Virgen that scored sophomore Brandon Castaneda and gave the Owls a 4-2 advantage.

Freshman Michael Reina got the start for Citrus on Saturday and was shut down for most of the game. Canyons' two scores were off of him, but he only allowed four total hits and two walks, while striking out six as he improved to 2-1 on the year.

The Owls added some insurance in both the seventh and eighth innings. Grace hit an RBI single in the seventh, as did Resch and Castaneda. Sophomore Jonathon Reynoso rounded out the scoring with an RBO single to right in the eighth to make it 8-2.

With the win, Citrus improves to 14-11 overall and 7-5 in WSC South play. Citrus will be on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Santa Clarita to take on Canyons for the deciding game in the 2014 season series.
