Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Baseball program's 2014 playoff hopes were all but dashed on Tuesday afternoon in a pitcher's duel with Glendale College. In a battle of aces, the Owls came up just short, falling 2-1.

Runs and hits were hard to come by on Tuesday, as Glendale recorded four total hits and the Owls just six. Citrus freshman Sean Patton (5-4) got the call on Tuesday and fared well enough, scattering three hits and three walks over 5.1 innings of work. Patton fanned five batters, and gave up just two runs, only one of which was earned helping put his team in a position to win.

Glendale scored first with that unearned run in the top of the second inning. The Owls would answer back in the bottom of the fourth, pulling even with a Troy Resch RBI single to right field that plated freshman Taylor Grace. The Vaqueros would go right back on top in the top of the fifth though, and Citrus never recovered.

The Owls did have some chances late. Their best arguably coming in the bottom of the ninth. Citrus put runners on the corners with one out, but the game ended on a 6-4-3 double play.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 18-16 overall and 11-8 in WSC South play. The Owls have two games left on the year, starting with a trip to LA Mission College on Thursday for a 2:30 PM start.
