Glendora, CA -- Two games into their 2015 schedule, the Citrus College Baseball team may be starting to develop a reputation. For the second straight game, the Owls battled back from a decent sized deficit, as they rallied against Los Angeles Pierce College on Wednesday afternoon, in a recall of their win on Tuesday, for a 7-6 victory over the Brahmas.

Scoring on Wednesday was at a premium in the early goings. Pierce scratched out a run in the top of the second via an infield single, but the Owls answered in the bottom half of the inning when freshman Jeremyn "J.P." Hopkins hit a single to center field that scored freshman Ryan Aguilar.

The game would stay knotted up at one run a piece, until the top of the fifth, when an RBI double by the Brahmas, put Pierce up a run. That lead didn't last through the bottom half of the inning though, as sophomore Taylor Grace singled in Hopkins to tie the game back up at two.

Pierce finally broke through in the top of the sixth, when they tagged the Owls for a trio of scores all unearned. An inning later, Citrus pulled to within one thanks to a two RBI double to right field off the bat of sophomore Troy Resch that made it 5-4 with two innings to go.

In that top of the eighth, things looked bleak for the Owls as Pierce added an insurance run to make it 6-4, headed into the bottom of that same inning. Citrus rallied yet again though, as a single through the right side of the field from freshman Michael Carlos plated sophomore Shawn Sweeney, and bases loaded RBI walk by Grace tied the game up at 6-6. On the very next at bat sophomore Aaron Torres wore the third pitch he faced, driving in Carlos for the game winning run.

Sophomore Ryan Ponder (1-0) earned the win on the hill for the Owls. Ponder pitched three and a third innings of relief, scattering three hits, two runs (one earned), and a walk, while striking out four. Carlos had the best day at the plate for the Owls going 2 for 4 with a pair of scores and a pair of RBI's. Hopkins finished 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-0 on the young season. The Owls opening week continues on Thursday when they travel to Oxnard College for a 2:00 PM first pitch.
