Cerritos, CA — Things couldn't have gotten off to a better start for the Citrus College Baseball team when they travelled to Cerritos College on Saturday afternoon. The Owls scored four runs in the top of the first inning and staked themselves to a 6-0 lead after just three innings of play. Things quickly took a turn for the worse in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Citrus gave up eight runs and coughed up their large lead in what turned into a 14-6 loss.

Freshman Ryan Aguilar got the Owls scoring party started with a sacrifice fly to center field that plated sophomore Aaron Torres. Sophomore catcher Shawn Sweeney would follow that up with an RBI single that drove in sophomore Troy Resch. Moments later freshman Jeremyn "J.P." Hopkins would make it 4-0 with a two RBI single to left field that scored Sweeney and freshman Jonathan Ayala.

After coming up empty in the third, Citrus got it going again in the top of the third. freshman Joshua Chua's infield RBI single to the short-stop made it 5-0. Freshman Michael Carlos would make it 6-0 two at bats later with an RBI single to right field.

Things began to unravel for the Owls shortly after that. Cerritos would cut the Citrus lead in half with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Owls would still lead the Falcons headed into the bottom of the seventh. That's when they broke the game wide open with an eight run innings. Cerritos would add two more in the bottom of the eighth for good measure.

In the loss, Citrus was led by Sweeney who went 3 for 3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Carlos would go 2 for 5 with an RBI, while Resch was 2 for 5 with a run.
