Glendora & Walnut, CA -- The Citrus College Baseball team played a home and away as per their usual routine during their spring break from conference play. The Owls split with the Mounties beating them 4-2 at home and falling 3-4 on the road.

In the first game, Citrus actually fell into an early hole as the Mounties scored both of their runs in the top of the first inning. The Owls would score a single run in each of the second, third, and fourth innings to slowly tie up the game and then eventually take the lead after the fourth. Freshman Michael Carlos drove in Citrus' first run with a single through the right side in the second, followed by sophomore Troy Resch's game tying RBI single through the same side of the field. Sophomore Anthony Virgen would give the Owls the lead with a single back up the middle of the field in the fourth to put the Owls up 3-2.

After the two run blip in the top of the first, sophomore Nicholas Sergi settled in and cruised over his next seven and two-thirds innings of work. Sergi allowed just six hits, two of which came in the first inning, walked three, and struck out seven batters, the second most for the righty in a single outing this Spring. Thanks to Sergi's efforts on the bump, Citrus didn't even need another score, but the Owls got just that when sophomore Richard Chavez singled up the middle in the bottom of the eighth to add some insurance for the Owls.

On Thursday, the script got flipped on the Owls as Citrus was no hit through seven innings. The Owls watched the Mounties score four runs quickly through the first four innings, while they had little going at the plate themselves.

Freshman Jeremyn "J.P." Hopkins finally broke up the no-no with one out in the top of the eighth. A single by sophomore Brendan Campbell and an error by the Mounties loaded the bases up for sophomore Mark Segat. Segat came through with a bases clearing RBI triple to make it 3-4. That was it for Citrus through as the next two batters struck out and flied out to end the threat. In the top of the ninth, Citrus got a two-out double from Chavez, but that was it as they fell by one.

With the win and the loss, Citrus moves to 14-12-1 overall. The Owls will resume WSC South play on Tuesday with a trip to Antelope Valley College for a 2:30 PM first pitch.
