Lancaster, CA -- After surrendering a two run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning of their WSC South contest at Antelope Valley College on Tuesday afternoon, the Owls staged a rally. Citrus went on to two runs in the top of the eighth to regain the lead, before sophomores Ryan Ponder and Sean Patton slammed the door over the final inning and two-thirds in a 5-4 victory over the Marauders.

It took a few innings, but Citrus got on the board in the top of the third thanks to a two RBI double. A few pitches later, a fielding miscue by the Marauders made it 3-0 as Resch scored from second. In the bottom of the fourth, Antelope made their way into the game with a single run to made it 3-1. The Marauders inflicted more damage two innings later with three runs that made it 4-3.

Trailing for the first time, Citrus got a two out single from sophomore Taylor Grace followed by another single by Resch that put runners on the corners. The Owls couldn't come up with a big hit though as the inning ended with the Owls coming up empty.

In the top of the eighth, Citrus did come through. After the Owls were given more life thanks to an error by Antelope that would have been the second out of the inning, sophomore Shawn Sweeney doubled to drive in sophomore Richard Chavez. One at bat later, Sweeney crossed home on a single by freshman Michael Carlos that made it 5-4.

The Marauders would try to mount a comeback in the eighth and ninth innings. Antelope would get a one out single in the eighth, which caused the Owls to turn the ball over to sophomore Ryan Ponder. Ponder got the first batter her faced to strike out looking and then two at bats later got a pop up to short stop to end in the threat. In the bottom of the ninth, Ponder gave way to Patton after giving up a single. Patton promptly struck out the side to end the game.

With the win, Citrus improves to 15-12-1 overall and 8-5 in WSC South play. The Owls, who have gone 6-4 in their last 10, will look to keep things going on Thursday when they play host to LA Valley College at 2:30 PM.
