Glendora, CA -- A disastrous top of the fifth inning doomed the Citrus College Baseball team's effort against first place Glendale College on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls gave up nine runs in that frame, all earned, in an eventual 10-7 loss to the Vaqueros.

Things weren't all bleak for the Owls from the jump. Sophomore Troy Resch started things off right in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI single down the left field line plating fellow sophomore Taylor Grace and making it 1-0.

The scored would stay there until the awful aforementioned top of the fifth that saw the Owls go down 9-1. Still, Citrus fought.

In the bottom half of the inning, Grace hit a two RBI single back up the middle of the field, and Resch doubled to right-center field driving in a pair to make it 9-5. Glendale got back a run in the top of the sixth, but the Owls gave it their best in the final half of the ninth.

With one out, Grace drove in another RBI via a fielder's choice groundout to make it 10-6. Resch followed that up with a double to left-center that drove in Grace and made it 10-7. The rally ended after that though, as the final batter of the game flew out to left.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 16-14-1 overall and 9-7 in WSC South play. The Owls will face the Vaqueros once more for the rubber match on Thursday at Glendale with a 2:30 PM first pitch.
