Glendale, CA -- With just four games left in the 2015 season, the Citrus College Baseball team kept themselves in the mix on Thursday afternoon with a 5-1 win over first place Glendale College. Sophomore Nicholas Sergi and Sean Patton shut down a Glendale offense that scored 10 runs on the Owls just two days prior.

Citrus took the lead on Thursday nearly right away. Sophomore Taylor Grace led the game off with a single to right-center, before sophomore Richard Chavez drove him in with a double to center field. The Owls added two more scores in the top of the third, getting an RBI single from freshman Jonathan Ayala and some heads up base running from freshman Brendan Campbell, after he scored from third on a wild pitch.

Controlling the game, Citrus scored twice more in the top of the fifth. Sophomore Shawn Sweeney drew a bases loaded walk and freshman Michael Carlos picked up an RBI a few pitches later when he was hit with the bases juiced. That's all the scoring the Owls needed.

Sergi (8-2) was excellent in his five and two-thirds innings of work. Sergi allowed three total base runners in his time on the hill, one via an error, one via a hit, and one via a walk. Sergi gave up no runs in his time on the bump, and struck out one Vaquero batter. Patton came in for Sergi with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Patton did give up four hits and one run, but he also fanned a pair, picking up his second save of the season.

In the win, Citrus was led by none other than Grace and sophomore Troy Resch, who were the only two Owl hitters to have more than one hit. Grace finished 2 for 5, while Resch was 2 for 3 with two of Citrus' five runs scored.

With the win, Citrus improves to 17-14-1 on the season and 10-7 in conference play. The Owls have a stiff test over their next two games as they take on Los Angeles Mission College. The Eagles are one game in front of Citrus for second place in the WSC South and have won seven straight headed into Saturday's tilt. That road game for the Owls, is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
