Norwalk, CA - Dating back to the 2012 season, the Citrus College Baseball team has reserved one of their opening week dates for a trip up the 605 to Cerritos College. The Owls have had little luck against the Falcons in that setting, with just one win in their previous four meetings. Thursday's contest at Pre-Season SoCal #18 Cerritos was more of the same as the Falcons scored four runs in three of their last four innings to down the Owls 7-3.

Things looked like they might finally break Citrus' way as they scored twice in the top of the first inning. The Owls got an RBI single from sophomore Rudy Casarez III and sophomore Jonathan Ayala would score via a balk to put Citrus up 2-0. Cerritos didn't let Citrus get comfortable though as they took back one run in the bottom of the first via a solo home run.

Cerritos kept it going in the bottom of the second with an RBI triple, had just one base runner in the top of the second, and their base runner erased via a double play in the top of the third. The Falcons meanwhile would briefly take the lead in the bottom of the third scoring off a passed ball that made it 3-2. Citrus finally got some offense going in the top of the fourth, when freshman Marcos Campos singled to right field bringing in freshman Kyosuke Ushimaru. The next two batters would also reach base, but their two-out rally was quickly snuffed out with a pitching change and pop up.

The game would stay tied through the fourth, before Cerritos regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth. The Falcons would go on to score once more in the seventh, and twice more in the eighth to add some significant cushion to their lead. Citrus meanwhile never crossed home plate again as they settled for their first loss of the season.

In the loss, sophomore Rodnee Little lead the way going 3 for 4 with a walk out of the lead-off spot. Casarez was 2 for 5, while Campos was 2 for 4.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 1-1 on the season. The Owls will be at home on Friday for their home opener when they host Pre-Season SoCal #10 Rio Hondo College at 2:00 PM.
