Owls Keep Foot on Gas In 9-1 Win at Antelope Valley

Lancaster, CA - Two days after scoring 14 runs in a big home win against Antelope Valley College, the Owls kept their foot on the offensive gas on Thursday afternoon when they travelled to the Marauders. Citrus scored nine more runs on 17 combined hits in a 9-1 victory.

Freshman Francisco Ramirez got things going on the day with a two-out RBI double to right field that brought in sophomore Ryan Aguilar in the top of the first. Freshman Steven Mendoza would drive in two more in the top of the third with an RBI single to center field.

The Owls would score four more runs in the top of the sixth, before Antelope even got on the board. Ramirez would open up the scoring with a sacrifice fly to left, followed by a two-RBI double to center field from Mendoza. Freshman Kyosuke Ushimaru would drive in the last run of the evening with an RBI single to left to make it 7-0.

Antelope would score their lone run via a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Owls answered back in the top of the eighth with a pair of solo shots of their own from the bats of Aguilar and Ramirez that pushed the Owls' runs to nine.

Ramirez would finish 4 for 4 on the day with two runs scored and three RBIs. Mendoza was 2 for 4 with a run and four RBIs, while Aguilar was 2 for 4 with three runs and an RBI. Freshman Hiroshi Ishiwatari was also 3 for 5. Sophomore Chris Ghosn (2-1) would earn the victory on the mound. Ghosn pitched six strong, scattering the one run, and six hits, while striking out four AVC batters and issuing no walks.  

With the win, Citrus improves to 10-7-1 overall and 3-2 in WSC South play. The Owls will go for the sweep of Antelope Valley on Friday afternoon when they host the Marauders in the season finale at 2:30 PM.
