Owls Get Swept by Vaqueros

Glendale, CA - Four days after they were supposed to get the game in, the Citrus College Baseball team finally were able to finish their three game conference set with Glendale College on Monday afternoon at Verdugo Park in Glendale. The Owls recently struggles continued as Glendale completed the sweep of Citrus with a 12-5 win.

Glendale drew first blood with a score in the bottom of the first. The Owls were able to keep the Vaqueros off the scoreboard over the next two innings, but Glendale broke the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth with five total runs, including a three run home run that made it 6-0. Glendale would add two more scores in the bottom of the fifth, jumping out to an 8-0 lead before Citrus even put a run on the board.

The Owls' runs would come in back to back innings beginning with the top of the sixth. Freshman Marcos Campos was able to drive in sophomore Joseph Morreale on a fielder's choice, while sophomore Ryan Aguilar and freshman Steve Mendoza followed that up with an RBI single and RBI triple respectively.

In the top of the 7th Morreale singled in sophomore Joshua Chua and freshman Jacob Gafford helped plate freshman Nicholas Marquez on a ground ball muffed by the Glendale short stop to make it 8-5. The Owls never got any closer though as they were shut out the rest of the way, and watched as the Vaqueros scored twice more in the seventh and once more in the eighth to reach their 12 runs.

With the loss, Citrus drops to 11-15-1 overall and 4-8 in WSC South play. Citrus will begin a three game set with Los Angeles Mission College on Tuesday when they travel to Sylmar for a 2:30 PM showdown with the Eagles.
