Norwalk, CA - The Citrus College Baseball team hit the road for the second straight game to start their 2017 season on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls travelled to Cerritos College for the afternoon, and once again the game left Citrus with wanting something extra, as they played their second straight extra innings game, and were left still searching for their first win in a 4-3 loss.

Sophomore Brennan Piceno was handed the ball to start the afternoon for the Owls, and Piceno was everything short of brilliant for the Owls, throwing 6.2 innings of shutout ball, surrendering a total of two walks and two hits, while striking out six batters. Unfortunately for him he only got one run in support, when sophomore Marcos Campos hit a sacrifice fly to center left field in the top of the sixth to bring home freshman Isaiah Montoya and give the Owls an early and brief 1-0 lead.

Citrus would keep the lead in their favor until the bottom of the eighth when Cerritos scored twice on a pair of RBI singles. The Falcons wouldn't hang on to the 2-1 lead for long as the Owls would once again move back on top in the top of the ninth, thanks to an RBI single by freshman Jesse Villalobos and Villalobos later scoring on a wild pitch to put Citrus up by one.

Just like Cerritos, Citrus couldn't hold onto the lead in the bottom of the ninth. The Falcons tied the game up with one out in the bottom half of the last inning In the top of the 10th, Citrus would put it's first two batters of the inning on via singles, but the next batter and the next grounded into a double play to end the threat. Four batters later, Cerritos scored the game winning run and the Owls were sent home still winless.

In the loss, Citrus was led at the plate by Campos who went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI. No other Owl had more than one hit, as Citrus recorded just five total hits on the game. With the loss, Citrus drops to 0-1-1 on the year. The Owls will play their home opener on Thursday afternoon when they host East Los Angeles College at 2:30 PM.
