Roadrunners Repress Citrus Comeback

Roadrunners Repress Citrus Comeback

Citrus College found itself in a 7-0 hole and clawed its way back to tie the game, but ultimately fell 9-7 on the road at Rio Hondo College.

The Owls drop to 2-2 overall and the Roadrunners improve to 3-1 with the result.

Trailing 7-0, Citrus found its rhythm offensively in the top of the fifth. With two runners on, Devon Diaz doubled to send both Owls home to spark the Citrus dugout. The Owls loaded the bases and Diaz tagged up at third off a Chad Green sacrifice fly, before back-to-back walks drove in another run to cut the deficit to two runs, 7-5. Rio Hondo changed pitchers, but two more walks evened things up at 7-7 before the Roadrunners could get out of the inning.

Rio Hondo tacked on two runs in the bottom of the eighth, putting pressure on the Owls to find a response. McKinney drew a free trip to first but was left stranded as the Roadrunners took the next three batters down in order.

Citrus turns right around to host Oxnard on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
